
XC Women Fourth, Men Sixth at National Catholic Invite

Marquette track & field and cross country to host alumni run on Saturday, Sept. 24
SOUTH BEND, INDIANA – The Marquette University men's and women's cross country teams finished sixth and fourth, respectively, at the National Catholic Invite hosted by Notre Dame Friday afternoon.
"I was pleased with the results this afternoon," said head coach Sean Birren. " We still have a few places to continue working on, including our pacing in tough weather but we made improvements that we can build off of."
Races at Burke Golf Course began with the women's 5k, Marquette had three harriers finish in the top-20. Junior Kate Jochims finished inside the top-10 with a time of 18:17.85 to take first for the Golden Eagles and seventh overall.
Taking second for MU, Laurel Moneysmith finished in 17th place running a season best 5k time of 18:37.18. Anna Penzkover finished shortly after in a time of 18:45.05 to take 19th.
Sophomore Audrey Grimm finished in 32nd place with a time of 19:22.36. Mikaela Sullivan finished in a personal best time of 19:57.62 and record for first top five finish of the season for MU. Sullivan took 48th overall.
In the men's 5-mile, Tyler Re led the MU men for a second week in a row taking 12th overall and rolling to a time of 25:51.30. Re has finished in Marquette's top two in all three meets this season.
Sophomore's David Zeller and Dan Weizeorick finished second and third for the Golden Eagles. Zeller crossed the line in a time of 26:29.80 to finish 28th. Weizeorick finished his 5-miles shortly after taking 32nd with a time of 26:45.50.
Taking 43rd, Thomas Leonard was the fourth MU runner to finish with a time of 27:18.00. Junior Jadon Conroy rounded out the top five with a time of 28:03.30 to take 54th place.
Next Up:
The Golden Eagles will be off competition next weekend but will be hosting the MUTFXC Alumni Run on Saturday, Sept. 24 at Doyne Park at 4 p.m. Register for the alumni run here.
MU will return to action on Friday, September 30 when they travel back to Notre Dame for the Joe Piane Invite.
