XC Men and Women Finish 12th at Joe Piane Invite

SOUTH BEND, INDIANA – The Marquette University men's and women's cross country team completed action at Notre Dame and the Joe Piane Invite. The men and women both took 12th place.

The meet at Burke Golf Course began with the women's 5k gold race. In a 19-team field, the MU women took 12th place led by junior Kate Jochims. Jochims finished first for the Golden Eagles and took 41st place overall with a season-best time of 18:07.2.

Junior Anna Penzkover finished next for MU running a 22-second personal best of 18:18.4 to take 46th place. Third for MU was Laurel Moneysmith taking 50th with a season-best time of 18:26.1.

Senior Captain Emily Noone finished in 68th place with a time of 18:41.4. Audrey Grimm completed Marquette's top 5 scores coming in 91st with a time of 19:06.4.

Junior Lexi Keppler finished in a personal best time of 19:36.3, beating her previous PR by 24-seconds.

The men finished 12 of 14 in the 5-mile gold race. All the MU men improved upon their 5-mile time from the last meet at Notre Dame. David Zeller led the Golden Eagles finishing 25th overall. Zeller improved upon his 5-mile time from last time out by over a minute with a time of 25:10.5.

Sophomores Tyler Re and Dan Weizeorick finished back-to-back of one another. Re took 59th place with a time of 25:47.8. Weizeorick crossed the line within a second of Re with a time of 25:48.3 to take 60th.

Thomas Leonard finished in 73rd running a time of 26:13.6. Jadon Conroy improved upon his time last time out by about a minute and a half with a time of 26:31.1 to take 79th and round out the Marquette top five.

The Golden Eagles will be in action next on Saturday, Oct. 8 at the Lucian Rosa Invitational host by Parkside.
