Golden Eagles conclude 2023 campaign
MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University men's soccer team (7-5-4, 1-4-3 BIG EAST) wrapped up the 2023 season with a  2-1 loss to No. 7 ranked Georgetown (11-2-2, 5-1-1 BIG EAST) Saturday afternoon at Valley Fields.
Â
Prior to kickoff Marquette honored seven seniors pregame for their contributions to the program and the university.
Â
The Golden Eagles traded shots with the Hoyas to start out the game but both teams were unsuccessful in their attempts. Marquette finished the first half with five shots on goal.
Â
In the 31st minute, Maximus Jennings scored the first goal for the Hoyas, to give Georgetown a 1-0 advantage. Â
Â
Both squads had quality looks on frame early in the start of the second half but could not connect.
Â
In the 72nd minute, Jacob Murrell scored the second goal of the game for the Hoyas after a cross that barely snuck by the MU backline.
Â
Shortly after, Marquette answered with its own goal. In the 76nd minute, Dominik Danis found the back of the net coming from a cross. The goal was Danis's first goal as a Golden Eagle. Danis's goal was assisted by Jai Hsieh-Bailey and Christian Marquez.
Â
Down one goal, the Golden Eagles kept the pressure on the Hoyas for the remainder of the second half but were unable to tie the match, and in the end the Hoyas earned a BIG EAST championship and Marquette concluded its 2023 campaign.
"This was a season of growth, and developing our style," head coach Louis Bennett said. "Using the experience these guys gained this season will only make us more motivated for next season." Â
