Golden Eagles Shot Season-High 57.9 Percent from the Floor
MILWAUKEE – The No. 23/23 Marquette women's basketball team stayed perfect on Sunday, beating Penn 87-52 to get to 8-0 on the season.
Jordan King hit 1,500 points for her career after her first made jumper. The senior has 1,516 points at MU to rank 13th all-time. King joins Angel Robinson (2007-2011) as the only two players in program history with 1,500 career points and 500 career assists.
Three Golden Eagles scored in double figures led by Frannie Hottinger who had a season-high 20 points on 9-of-14 shooting with eight rebounds. Mackenzie Hare started 4-of-4 from deep, and finished the game with 19 points going 5-of-6 from beyond the arc.
It was a back-and-forth tilt through the first ten minutes, but a 10-2 run in the middle of the second quarter gave MU a 14-point cushion. The lead would stay in double digits the rest of the way with MU leading by as much as 42 in the second half. Marquettte outscored Penn 32-9 in the third quarter.
Marquette shot 50 percent from deep (8-of-16), the second game in a row MU has shot 50 percent or better from long range. MU shot a season-high 62.5 percent against Memphis on Wednesday.
The Golden Eagles had 22 assists on 33 made baskets, the fifth time in eight games MU has recorded 20 or more assists.
Penn was led by Mataya Gale who had a game-high 23 points. Leading scorer Stina Almqvist (19.7 ppg) was held to just two points on 1-of-9 shooting.
NOTABLES:
Marquette travels to Normal, Illinois for a matchup with Illinois State on Sunday, Dec. 10 at 2 p.m. CT. It will be the second true road game of the season for MU.
