
WBB Notches 66-49 Win Over Georgetown

Marquette records 22 assists on 26 made baskets in strong performance Saturday evening
MILWAUKEE — The Marquette women's basketball team (15-8, 8-6 BIG EAST) took down Georgetown Saturday evening, posting a 66-49 win at the Al McGuire Center.
"I'm really proud of our overall team effort after our loss at Villanova on Wednesday," said Marquette head coach Megan Duffy. "I thought we really settled in and took out a little bit of frustration on Georgetown after how we played the other night. One of our goals was to loosen things up on the offensive end and move the ball around a little bit better, and I though we did a really nice job of that."
The Golden Eagles used great ball movement and efficient offense to help secure the win, recording 22 assists on 26 made baskets, while locking things down on the other end of the court. MU held Georgetown to just 37.3 percent (22-of-59) shooting, while forcing 13 turnovers.
In a game which Marquette never trailed, the Golden Eagles used a strong shooting start to pull ahead early and never look back. After taking a 36-23 advantage into the halftime break, MU continued to add to its lead, posting a 23-13 third quarter behind 60 percent (9-of-15) shooting from the floor in the period. The Marquette lead stretched to as many as 23 points early in the fourth.
For the 12th time this season, senior forward Jordan King went for 20-plus points in the outing, finishing with 23 points, five assists and three rebounds while shooting 10-of-17 from the floor. She was joined in double-figures by freshman guard Emily La Chapell and senior forward Chloe Marotta, who had 11 points and 10 points, respectively.
Marotta also dominated the glass, notching a double-double with 13 rebounds, while junior guard Rose Nkumu chipped in a career-high eight boards in the contest.
Georgetown was led by Kelsey Ransom, who had team-bests of 23 points and seven rebounds.

With five assists in the contest, Jordan King moved into number seven on Marquette's all-time career leaderboard. She passed Danielle King (2015-19), and now has 443 in her career.

This was King's 12th career 20-plus point scoring performance, and her ninth of the season. She also had five assists, three rebounds and a steal.

Finishing with 10 points and 13 rebounds in the contest, Chloe Marotta posted her seventh double-double of the season and the 13th of her career. She also had three assists, three steals and a block.

With 831 rebounds in her career, Marotta now sits just one board from moving up to eighth all-time in Marquette history.

Rose Nkumu brought down a career-high eight rebounds, passing her previous career high of seven on 1/12/22.

Liza Karlen returned to the Marquette starting lineup for the first time since Dec. 31. She missed seven games due to injury, and came off the bench at Villanova.

Karlen played 22 minutes, going for two points, four boards, five assists and a steal.

Marquette never trailed in the contest, and held the lead for 36:49 of action.

Marquette finished the game shooting 41.9 percent (26-of-62) from the floor, 27.3 percent (6-of-22) from 3-point range and 80.0 percent (8-of-10) from the free throw line.

With the win, Marquette improves to 10-2 in home games this season.

With the win, Marquette improves to 26-4 all-time against Georgetown, and has now won 12-straight in the series and 15 of the past 16 meetings.
