Men's and Women's Track & Field Teams Earn USTFCCCA All-Academic Honors

MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University men's and women's track and field teams have earned 2023 U.S. Track & Field and Cross-Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Team honors. Both the men's and women's teams received the honor with a cumulative GPA over 3.0. The men posted a GPA of 3.31 and the women had a GPA of 3.48.

Mitchell Van Vooren, Dan Weizeorick and Simon Werven received individual honors. All three are receiving the honor for the first time.
The criteria for being named an All-Academic Athlete are as follows:

Minimum CUMULATIVE grade point average of 3.25 on a 4.0 scale, including the most recent grading period, certifiable by either NCAA Faculty Rep or NCAA Compliance Coordinator or Registrar's Office. Institutions utilizing a different GPA scale must convert the GPA to a 4.0 scale using the standard conversion method [GPA/Scale x 4.0].
Must have completed at least two (2) semesters or three (3) quarters at the nominating institution.
Athletic criteria for the award:
- For the indoor season: must have finished the season ranked in the top 96 in any championship individual event, or in the top 48 in any championship relay event, for the most recent indoor season, certifiable by their place on final season performance lists on TFRRS for Indoor Track and Field (including performances achieved outside the qualifying window during the indoor season).
- For the outdoor season: must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships (the Preliminary Championship Competition and/or the Final Championship Competition) or for the multi-events, must have finished the season ranked in the top 48 in the East or top 48 in the West for the most recent outdoor season, certifiable by their place on the NCAA Division.

An All-BIG EAST selection in the 400 hurdles, Van Vooren turned in a cumulative GPA of 3.49 with a double major in marketing and real estate. Van Vooren was an NCAA West Regional qualifier in the 400 hurdles and finished 18th overall. He broke the 400 hurdles school record in the first round with a time of 51.38.

Weizeorick was also an NCAA West qualifier competing in the steeplechase. The Lisle, Illinois native finished 13th in his heat and 38th overall as the No. 41 seed. Weizeorick clocked the No.2 steeplechase time in program history at the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships with a time of 8:53.32. Majoring in marketing, Weizieorick recorded a cumulative GPA of 3.77.

Werven graduated from MU with a 3.98 cumulative GPA, double majoring in interdisciplinary cognitive science & psychology. Werven won the decathlon at the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships with a score of 6898, No. 4 all-time at MU. The Rochester, Minnesota native also earned All-BIG EAST Indoor honors with a runner-up finish in the heptathlon at the cpnference indoor championships with 4952 points.
