MILWAUKEE - The Marquette women's basketball team fell 85-59 to No. 8/8 UConn on Tuesday evening at the Al McGuire Center.Â
The Golden Eagles (15-4, 4-4 BIG EAST) had three in double-figures led by Liza Karlen, who had 21 on 10-of-17 shooting. Mackenzie Hare added 19 points with four 3-pointers.
The Huskies (17-3, 9-0 BIG EAST) had five in double-figures and were led by Paige Bueckers, who had 26 points on 11-of-18 shooting. Aaliyah Edwards had a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds.
NOTABLE:
• Tuesday's matchup was the 20th meeting all-time between Marquette and UConn, a series that the Huskies lead, 19-1.
• MU and UConn have meet three times in each of the previous three seasons after the Huskies rejoined the BIG EAST for the 2020-21 campaign.
• Both teams shot over 54% from the field in the first half and at least 40% from 3-point range. UConn shot 61.8% (21-of-34) in the opening 20 minutes, including a 6-for-10 mark from deep. MU shot 54.8% from the floor in the first half.
• Bueckers and Karlen each had a game-high 19 points in the first half.​​​​​​
• Marquette, which averages 19.8 assists per game, notched helpers on 15 of its 17 first half baskets. UConn had 12 assists on 21 field goals in that frame.
• Karlen moved into 18th on the all-time rebounds list with 643 for her career.
 • MU's Mackenzie Hare hit 4-of-6 3-pointers. She entered the game sixth in the nation in 3-point percentage (47.4) and 16th in treys per game (2.9). She leads the league in 3-pointers made with 59.
 • MU senior point guard Rose Nkumu finished with six assists and has 10 games with five-or-more assists this season. She entered the game first in the BIG EAST and sixth in the nation with a 3.2 assist-to-turnover ratio.
• The Huskies extended their winning streak to 13 games with Tuesday's win. Their last loss came Dec. 3 at Texas.
• Germantown, Wisconsin-native and UConn freshman KK Arnold was voted preseason BIG EAST Freshman of the Year and was a McDonald's All-American at Germantown High School. Arnold finished with 13 points in her first game back in her home state.
