WBB Hosts Butler Saturday at 4 p.m. CT

The Marquette women's basketball team stays home to host Butler for Alumni Day on Saturday, Jan. 27. Tipoff from the Al McGuire Center is at 4 p.m. CT.

Saturday's contest will be broadcast on the BIG EAST Digital Network on FloHoops with Bob Brainerd (play-by-play) and Michelle Griffin-Wenzel (analyst) on the call.

Former coach Terri Mitchell, who will be inducted into the M Club Hall of Fame Saturday morning, will be honored during the game. Mitchell is the winningest coach in program history, claiming 348 victories in 18 years as head coach. Her .618 winning percentage is second all-time at MU. She guided the program to seven NCAA tournament appearances, four Conference USA regular season titles and the 2008 Women's National Invitation Tournament Championship.

SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
• Butler won their first conference game on Wednesday, beating Xavier 90-57 on the road.
• The Bulldogs shot a season-high 62.3 percent from the field and were 54 percent from deep.
• Caroline Strande leads the team in points (15.1) and rebounds (7.6)
• The Bulldogs were picked to finish eighth in the preseason coaches' poll.

ALL-TIME SERIES AGAINST BUTLER
• Saturday's meeting will be the 30th all-time between Marquette and Butler, with MU leading the series, 20-9.
• Marquette is 17-4 against Butler since the Bulldogs have been in the BIG EAST.
• Golden Eagles have won the last seven meetings and are 10-4 at home.

KING ON SMALL FORWARD OF THE YEAR TOP 10 LIST
• Jordan King was named a Cheryl Miller Award Top 10 candidate on Wednesday, Jan. 24.
• King was named on the award's preseason Top 20 watch list in October.
• King has scored in double-figures in 17-of-19 games this season and is averaging 14.5 points and 3.8 assists per game.

KARLEN CAREER STRETCH
• Liza Karlen is averaing 19.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game last 11 games.
• Karlen had a career-high 30 points at Seton Hall behind an 11-of-16 shooting clip.
• The senior is the eighth player in the BIG EAST to have a 30-point game.
• The senior has led the team in scoring eight times this season, and has seven 20-point games after having four total her first three years at MU.
• The St. Paul, Minnesota native is second in the BIG EAST and 18th nationally in FG made with 141.

LIZA ON POWER FORWARD OF THE YEAR TOP 10 LIST
• Karlen was named a 2024 Katrina McClain Award Top 10 candidate on Thursday, Jan 25.
• Karlen averages 17.7 points and 7.3 rebounds per game and has collected three BIG EAST Player of the Week honors this season.
• The senior played her way on to the list and is the only BIG EAST Player to be named an AP National Player of the Week after averaging 24.5 points and 8.0 rebounds in wins over then-No. 20 Creighton and App State in December.

FLOOR LEADER
• Rose Nkumu has 10 games with 5-or-more assists this season.
• Nkumu is first in the BIG EAST and sixth in the nation with a 3.3 assist-to-turnover ratio.
• The senior is one of 48 players in the nation to average 5-or-more assists per game.

MOVING THE BALL
• Marquette is second in the BIG EAST and seventh in the nation in assists per game (19.8).
• The Golden Eagles have recorded 20-or-more assists in 10-of-19 games this season. MU hit that mark eight times all of last season.

CLEANING THE GLASS
• Marquette has outrebounded its opponent in 17-of-19 games.
• Under Megan Duffy, Marquette is 90-24 when outrebounding the opponent and have only been outrebounded 28 times.
• The Golden Eagles had a season-high 55 rebounds against Bucknell on Thursday, Dec. 21.
• Frannie Hottinger (8th, 7.4) and Liza Karlen (9th, 7.3) are both top-10 in the BIG EAST in rebounds per game, only team in the conference to have two players in the top-10 in rebounds per game.
• MU is first in the BIG EAST and 33rd nationally in rebounding margin (+7.4).
