Mason Woodward is the BIG EAST Preseason Defensive Player of the Year
BALTIMORE – Marquette University men's lacrosse defenseman Mason Woodward continues to rack up preseason recognition and is an Inside Lacrosse NCAA Division I Preseason Second Team All-American, the publication announced on Monday afternoon.
The honor adds to the slate of preseason awards Woodward has earned this year, including BIG EAST Conference Preseason Defensive Player of the Year and a spot on the USA Lacrosse Magazine Preseason All-America Second Team.
The native of Towson, Maryland is a three-time USILA All-American and a four-time team captain, who is on pace to become Marquette's all-time ground ball leader in early 2024.
Woodward is the first Marquette player to be selected for preseason IL recognition since prior to the 2017 season when then-senior attackman Ryan McNamara was pegged on the third team. He joins McNamara, Liam Byrnes (2016) and B.J. Grill (2016) as the only Marquette representatives on preseason Inside Lacrosse All-America teams.
The Golden Eagles begin their 2024 regular season at Air Force on Saturday, Feb. 3 at 1 p.m. Central time.
