#MUBB Hosts Stony Brook Monday In Season Lidlifter

FS1 features 7:30 p.m. CT national television broadcast
The No. 18/17 Marquette University men's basketball team (0-0, 0-0 BIG EAST) opens its 108th season of competition on Monday, Nov. 4 at 7:30 p.m. CT when the team hosts Stony Brook (0-0, 0-0 CAA) at Fiserv Forum. Â
FS1 features the national television broadcast, with Jeff Levering (play-by-play) and Terrence Ogelsby (analyst) calling the action. Â Following Monday's outing, the Golden Eagles will continue their season-opening three-game homestand against George Mason on Friday, Nov. 8 at the Al McGuire Center in a "students only" game.

Fourth-year head coach Shaka Smart returns three starters and eight total letterwinners from last year's 27-10 squad, which made the program's third-straight trip to the NCAA tournament and advanced to the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2013.
FS1 Featuring League-Wide Coverage Monday

Eight BIG EAST teams open the 2024-25 campaign at home Monday night and FS1 will feature complete coverage with its Opening Night Tip-Off program.

The FS1 crew will anchor coverage from the studio and provide live coverage of each of the eight outings at various times throughout the evening. Â Action begins at 5:30 p.m. CT when St. John's hosts Fordham.Â

Marquette Hoping To Continue Opening Success

Marquette has enjoyed a tremendous amount of success on opening night and hopes to continue that trend in 2024-25 when the team faces Stony Brook.

The Golden Eagles are 91-16 (.850) all-time in campaign lidlifters and have claimed 31 of their last 33 overall. Â Marquette had an impressive streak of 29 years in which it started 1-0, dating from 1960-61 to 1988-89.Â

Monday's opener will mark the first-ever meeting between the Golden Eagles and Seawolves, but Seawolves assistant Mark Dixon spent each of the past three seasons at Marquette after serving as a manager under Shaka Smart at Texas.
Golden Eagles Tabbed Fourth In Preseason Poll Â

Marquette finished fourth in the BIG EAST Preseason Coaches Poll, earning 74 points and one first-place vote.

Two-time defending champion UConn earned all possible 100 points and Creighton (84) and Xavier (82) finished second and third, respectively.
MU Earns Preseason National Recognition Â

For the second-straight season Marquette found its name in the preseason national rankings, this time checking in at No. 18 in the Associated Press Top-25 and 17th in the Coaches Poll.Â

MU's preseason No. 5 ranking in the AP Top-25 in 2023-24 was its highest since 1977-78 and first since being rated 17th in the preseason poll prior to the 2013-14 campaign.
