MILWAUKEE – First-year Marquette University men's lacrosse head coach Jake Richard has announced the program's schedule for the 2025 campaign, featuring six home games at Valley Fields and non-conference road games at Michigan, Notre Dame, Harvard and Utah.
"We are looking forward to testing ourselves against another tough schedule beginning with a Big Ten opponent in the season opener and the reigning national champs two weeks later," Richard said. "The BIG EAST has proven to be one of the elite conferences in the sport and we will do our best to prepare the team to the rigors of that schedule at the end of the year."
The Golden Eagles open the spring semester with an intrasquad scrimmage on Saturday, Jan. 18 at Valley Fields before exhibition contests in Annapolis, Maryland against both Navy and the University of Virginia.
"We're fortunate to begin the year with scrimmages against two high-level opponents in Virginia and the Naval Academy," Richard said. "Navy and UVA will have their guys ready to play and it will be a great test to see where we are at heading into the regular season. It will be special to share the field with (Navy head coach) Joe Amplo who has meant so much to this program and me."
Marquette opens the regular season on National Marquette Day, Saturday, Feb. 1 on the road against the University of Michigan. The Golden Eagles will meet the Wolverines for the seventh time in regular season action and the third time in Ann Arbor. The last matchup in Ann Arbor was on March 11, 2020, a 13-12 MU loss, and was the last game of the 2020 NCAA men's lacrosse season.
The home opener is slated for Saturday, Feb. 8 against Detroit Mercy before the Golden Eagles head to two-time defending NCAA Champion Notre Dame on Saturday, Feb. 15. MU then closes the month of February at home against Cleveland State on Saturday, Feb. 22.
Marquette plays three of its final four non-conference games in March on the road, beginning with a Saturday, March 1 contest at Harvard. That matchup is the first for the Golden Eagles against the Crimson. MU then returns to Milwaukee for a Tuesday, March 4 meeting with Bellarmine and has a bye the weekend of March 8.
The Golden Eagles conclude non-conference play away from home with a March 15 game at Utah preceding a March 22 neutral site contest against Air Force at Loyola Academy in Wilmette, Illinois.
BIG EAST Conference play begins with a pair of home games, starting with St. John's at Valley Fields on Saturday, March 29. MU then hosts Georgetown on Saturday, April 5 before road games at Providence and Villanova on April 12 and April 19, respectively.
The regular season closes on Friday, April 25 in an evening tilt against the University of Denver under the lights in the Valley.
The 2025 BIG EAST Men's Lacrosse Championship will be held on Thursday, May 1 and Saturday, May 3 at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium in Denver.
