THE LINEUP
1. Max Lyons
2. Aidan Lafferty
3. Mason Schmidtke
4. Will Hemauer
5. Josh Robinson
Alternate: Patrick Adler
Junior Max Lyons and graduate students Aidan Lafferty and Josh Robinson lead the Golden Eagles into this week's conference championship as the three active MU golfers with previous BIG EAST tournament experience.
Lyons finished in the teens at each of his previous two BIG EAST meets and set an event single-round record as a freshman with a 8-under 64 in the opening round of the 2022 championship at Callaway Gardens's Mountain Course. He leads the active MU players this season with a 72.17 scoring average and a team-best 16 rounds of par-or-better. The native of Phoenix is a two-time All-BIG EAST performer, the league's 2021-22 freshman of the year, and has paced MU at six of its 10 events this season.
Lafferty has recorded top-two team finishes at six events and Robinson led the MU contingent at the Flyer Invitational in the fall in a tie for second place individually.
Freshman Mason Schmidtke from Sheboygan, Wisconsin jumps all the way up to the No. 3 spot in the lineup. He's made steady progress over the spring, finishing as Marquette's fourth finisher in the first three events of 2024 and third at both the Augusta Haskings Invitational and the Fighting Illini Spring Collegiate last weekend.
Â
Sophomore Will Hemauer has been a recent addition to the Marquette lineup and finished as MU's No. 2 at Illinois.
The Golden Eagles put together a strong fall season capped with a win at the Dayton Flyer Invitational on Oct. 16-17 at NCR Country Club in Kettering, Ohio. MU topped eight-time defending Big Ten champion Illinois at the event and played a strong spring slate in early 2024. MU has faced some of the nation's toughest competition this spring at the Puerto Rico Classic at Grand Reserve Golf Club, The Johnnie-O at Sea Island, The Hootie Intercollegiate at Bulls Bay and the Augusta Haskins Award Invitational at Forest Hills Golf Club.
Sima-Aree will not compete this weekend due an injury that has sidelined him throughout the spring campaign. He was MU's sixth BIG EAST medalist in program history last spring.
