Yadhira Anchante is BIG EAST Setter of the Week

MILWAUKEE – Marquette University women's volleyball graduate student Yadhira Anchante is the BIG EAST Conference Setter of the Week it was announced on Monday afternoon, while middle blocker Carsen Murray was named to the league's weekly honor roll for play in the Hyatt Place Invitational on Sept. 13-14 in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
Anchante took home most valuable player honors at the event as the Golden Eagles claimed the tournament crown with wins over host Western Kentucky and then-No. 24 Dayton. She averaged 10.56 assists and 3.00 digs per set along with three total kills, a pair of service aces and five blocks. Anchante posted a season-high 55 assists at WKU on Friday alongside 11 digs, two blocks and an ace in the five-set win. She followed that up with another double-double against Dayton with 40 assists, 16 digs, three blocks, three kills and an ace.
The native of Peru is a two-time BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week and earned league setter of the year honors during her first season at MU in 2022.
Murray hit .452 (21-2-42) with 2.33 kills and 1.11 blocks per set against the Hilltoppers and Flyers. She landed a season-high 14 kills alongside three blocks in Friday's win at Western Kentucky and posted seven blocks and seven kills against Dayton. Her play against UDÂ shut down the Flyers offense and forced Preseason A-10 Player of the Year Lexie Almodovar into 12 hitting errors. Dayton entered the weekend fifth nationally with a .322 hitting percentage and hit just .168 on Saturday.
MU continues its season-long five-match road swing next week against No. 8 Wisconsin at the Kohl Center on Tuesday, Sept. 17 in Madison in addition to weekend games in Pittsburgh against East Carolina and No. 1 Pitt.
