Golden Eagles compete in first meet of 2025 at the TRACK at new balance
BOSTON – Marquette University track and field student-athletes competed at the New Balance Collegiate Showdown on Saturday and set two program records.
"What a day! We brought a lot of energy today and our tough early season training is paying off early," Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Bert Rogers said.
Aaron Hughes finished first in the 60m with a PR of 6.81 seconds, second all-time in program history. Hughes now owns the second and fourth fastest 60m times in program history. One hour later, Hughes set a new program record in the 200m at 21.58 seconds.
"Aaron truly had a historic day. Winning twice, breaking the 200m record and oh so close to the 60m record," Rogers said. "Danny Olsen shouldn't be forgotten. He was under the previous 200m record and ran #8 in the 400m."
Danny Olsen set a new PR in the 400m at 48.78 seconds, the eighth-fastest time in program history. Olsen then ran a 21.61 200m, a new PR and second-fastest time in program history.
Daylee Braden set a new program record in the indoor 800m at 2:09.58. It was her first time running the 800m indoors. Braden also owns the outdoor 800m record at 2:04.93.
"Daylee ran by herself the whole race, so I feel she could have gone faster with some competition around her," Rogers said. "Still, she executed her race plan well."
Kaylee Hopp finished first in the triple jump at 11.60m. Annika Bynum finished second in the high jump, clearing 1.65m.
UP NEXT: Marquette competes at the Tierney Classic, hosted by Milwaukee, on Saturday, Jan. 25.
