"Last year at this meet, our top five averaged 26:00, and this year we ran 25:22, our top seven averaged 25:42, which is another clear sign of progress," head coach Jack Hackett said. "We were 18th through the 2K and moved up every kilometer for the rest of the race, finishing 15th overall after placing 28th last year. I'm really pleased with the improvement and the way our group competed.

"On the women's side, we had several athletes racing for the final spots on the conference roster, which made things competitive in the white race. Allie Opalka had the best race she's had so far in a Marquette jersey. In the red race, we improved from 29th last year to 21st this year. Overall, it was a solid day — a few standout performances and, for many, a decent effort. We're such a young team, and now that we're starting the taper, I expect we'll continue to see progress and stronger performances. Emma Coon also ran about a minute faster than she did at this meet last year."
