Cross Country Competes at BIG EAST Championships
10/31/2025 4:04:00 PM | Cross Country
Marquette University cross country competed at the 2025 BIG EAST Cross Country Championships on Friday afternoon at Mahoney State Park in Ashland, Nebraska.
"I think we came in aiming for a higher finish," Associate Head Coach Jack Hackett said. "We wanted to compete with DePaul, Creighton, and Xavier and came up just a bit short, but I'm really proud of how the men competed. They put themselves in a great position and gave themselves a chance. The team is well ahead of where we were last year, and I'm excited for regionals. A bigger field should play to our strengths."
The men's program finished eighth out of nine teams and was led by Nick Parrell, who placed 37th, an improvement of 34 spots from last year's BIG EAST Championship finish.
On the women's side, Emma Coon paced the Golden Eagles with a time of 21:19.98, finishing 29th overall, a career-best conference championship performance. The junior improved 16 spots from her 45th-place finish last season.
"The women's race was similar," Hackett said. "We got out well and were in another tight battle. I was thrilled with a few standout performances: Emma moved up a lot from last year, Elise Fischer really went for it, Kaylie Earl had a strong kick, and Taya Gummerson fought hard to hold her spot. On the men's side, Patrick Clune closed well, and Ethan Aidoo finally showed the fitness he built this year. I'm super proud of that."
