#MUBB Hosts Maryland at 1 p.m. Saturday

The Marquette University men's basketball team (3-1, 0-0 BIG EAST) continues its four-game homestand on Saturday, Nov. 15 at 1 p.m. CT when the squad hosts Maryland (2-1, 0-0 Big Ten) to conclude a home-and-home series. Peacock features the broadcast, with John Fanta (play-by-play) and Donny Marshall (analyst) calling the action. Following Saturday's outing, the Golden Eagles will welcome to Dayton to town on Wednesday, Nov. 19 at 6:30 p.m. CT.

Marquette Facing Maryland For Third Time

The Golden Eagles and Terps will meet for the third time on Saturday afternoon, with the first matchup coming in the championship game of the 2019 Orlando Invitational.

Maryland claimed that outing, 84-63, on Dec. 1, 2019, holding Marquette all-time leading scorer Markus Howard to just six points after he averaged 45.5 points per game in the event in wins over Davidson and USC.

Last season, guard Kam Jones led all scorers with 28 points as Marquette earned a 78-74 win on the road on Nov. 15, 2024 at the XFINITY Center. Forward Royce Parham chipped in 10 points off the bench in 13 minutes of action.

First-year Maryland head coach Buzz Williams served as head coach at Marquette for six seasons (2008-14), compiling an overall record of 139-69. He led the team to five NCAA tournament appearances, highlighted by three trips to the Sweet 16 and one Elite Eight appearance.

Banner Day For McNeal On Saturday

Jerel McNeal, who broke the program's 40-year-old scoring record as a senior, will join the exclusive group of players whose respective jerseys are displayed in the rafters at Fiserv Forum during a halftime ceremony on Saturday.

McNeal is currently third all-time at Marquette with 1,985 points, but in 2008-09 surpassed George Thompson's (1966-69) total of 1,773. He was an Associated Press Second Team All-America honoree as a senior and the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year in 2005-06. He ranks first in program history in steals (287), third in scoring and third in field goals made (726).

McNeal joins former players Dwyane Wade (3), Dean Meminger (14), Butch Lee (15), Maurice Lucas (20), Jim Chones (22), George Thompson (24), Bo Ellis (31), Doc Rivers (31), Earl Tatum (43) and Don Kojis (44) as individuals to be recognized.

Gold On The Glass Early In 2025-26

In his first 107 games as a Golden Eagle, senior forward Ben Gold grabbed eight-or-more rebounds on just three occasions.

Early in 2025-26, he has reached that mark in each of the team's four outings. He finished with 11 points and nine boards in 25 minutes of action vs. Little Rock, narrowly missing his first-career double-double for the third-straight outing (10 points, nine rebounds vs. Southern - 10 points, eight caroms against Indiana).

On the year, Gold is averaging 9.0 points and 8.5 rebound per outing, while shooting 52.2 percent from the floor. He averaged a career-best 4.3 rebounds per contest in 2024-25.

James Jr. Aggressive On Offense In First Start

Freshman guard Nigel James Jr., who collected seven total points in the team's first two games, has now reached double figures in back-to-back outings.

The Huntington, N.Y. native made his first-career start on Wednesday night against Little Rock for the injured Sean Jones, finishing with 13 points, two assists and a steal in 22 minutes of action.

In his last two outings, which includes a personal-best 16-point performance against Indiana, James Jr. is averaging 14.5 points and 2.5 assists per game while shooting 52.6 percent (10-of-19) from the floor and 88.9 percent (8-of-9) from behind the 3-point line.
