Golden Eagles strengthen future with international talent championship pedigree
MILWAUKEE —The Marquette women's tennis program announced the signing of Lea Holmlund and Caroline Raster to the 2026 roster. The pair brings elite development, championship experience, and strong academic ambition to an the Golden Eagles program.
Holmlund joins Marquette from Stockholm and intends to major in Finance. A standout in the Swedish junior system, her home club qualified for the national finals in 2024 and 2025, finishing fourth in the Girls' 18 division in 2024 and sixth in 2025.Â
Holmlund on why she chose Marquette:
"I chose to attend Marquette University because it offers a great combination of high-level academics and tennis. I believe this will provide me with an inspiring environment where I can continue to develop as a player. I also think I will be able to grow as a person by being part of the community and challenging myself both on and off the court."
MU coach Brett Barnett on Holmlund:
"I couldn't be happier that Lea has signed and will be a Golden Eagle. Â We are getting someone that has constantly been improving in Sweden and is playing at a very high level already. Â She is a player that can hurt you off both sides from the back of the court and is not afraid to move forward. Â She has very good pace and location on her serve and can use that as an advantage. Â She moves very well and has had strong results in both singles and doubles. Â I could tell right away that she has a team first mentality and will work hard daily to improve and make her teammates better."
Raster travels to Marquette from just up the road in Elm Grove, Wisconsin. The Individual State Champion completed an undefeated senior season, earned First-Team All-Conference honors in three consecutive years, and helped lead the Spartans to back-to-back state championships in 2024 and 2025. She concluded her career with a remarkable 104–10 record.
Raster on why she chose Marquette:
"I chose Marquette University for its Catholic, Jesuit tradition of excellence in academics and service to others, as well as for the level of competition the women's tennis team will provide. At Marquette my game will grow, and I will be able to add value to a team that is improving. Coach Barnett is serious about tennis, and is attuned to his players as whole people, not only as players. In short, I'm excited to go to MU, where my faith, intellect, and tennis game will grow!
Â
MU coach Brett Barnett on Raster:
"Caroline was one of the first recruits I reached out to after arriving at Marquette. Â The best player in the state of Wisconsin is coming to Marquette and that is huge for the program as she was highly recruited. Â Caroline has won back-to-back team state championships and recently won the state singles championship. Â I think she has only scratched the surface of her potential. Â She's had strong results all summer and fall and is going to thrive in our system and continue to improve at a quick rate. Caroline is so strong from the back of the court, extremely quick and moves so well. Â She can extend rallies and be patient but also step in and play aggressively and hurt you when needed. Â She is a great person and someone that her teammates will love to be around."
