The Golden Eagles will face the Cyclones and Illini at the University of Dubuque
MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University women's volleyball team opens its spring season on Saturday afternoon in Dubuque, Iowa against both Iowa State University and the University of Illinois.
The Golden Eagles square off against the Cyclones at noon Central time before a 1:30 p.m. matchup with the Illini on Jon Davison Court in Stoltz Sports Center at the University of Dubuque.Â
Tickets are available for free on a first come, first served basis but must be claimed online to access the facility. Doors open at 11:15 a.m.
The matches represent the first intercollegiate competition for the Golden Eagles under new head coach Tom Mendoza, who was introduced last month as the sixth head coach in program history. Mendoza has since added a pair of coaches to his staff in associate head coach Ethan Pheister and assistant coach Stef Jankiewicz.
Marquette went 25-9 overall and 16-2 in conference play last season and made its third NCAA regional appearance. The Golden Eagles return seven letter winners from 2024, including AVCA All-Region middle hitter Hattie Bray.Â
Saturday will mark the first action in MU a uniform for three freshmen (Isabela Haggard, Mari King, Keira Schmidt), who arrived on campus for the spring semester, and Middle Tennessee transfer and Kenosha, Wisconsin native Allyson Eckel.
Following Saturday's matches in Dubuque, MU has a pair of in-state matchups at Milwaukee and at Wisconsin on April 11 and 16, respectively.
TV NOTE: The Wednesday, April 16 contest against the Badgers is slated to air live on the Big Ten Network at 7:30 p.m.Â
