The Golden Eagles will compete in the Milwaukee Tennis Classic this weekend
The Marquette men's tennis team competed in the WMU/Vredevelt Invitational last weekend in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Through the weekend the Golden Eagles recorded three singles wins and one doubles victory.
Blake Roegner picked up a singles win over DePaul's Sebastian Medica. Roegner took the first set 6-2 but Medica forced a third set after taking the second 7-6. Roegner closed the tiebreaking set with a 10-6 victory. Remi St. Laurent faced Elias Anwar also from Depaul and posted a straight set 6-2, 6-2 win. The final singles win came from Kristian Blagoev who posted a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Arnesh Singh of Butler.
On the doubles side the duo Roegner and St. Laurent defeated Noan Becker and Evan Lee 6-3.
MU coach Jud Shaufler on the past weekend and the Milwaukee Tennis Invitational:
"I felt our guys did a good job of competing against pretty strong competition. We got a chance to go at it with a couple of our conference rivals, which will benefit us when we go at it in the spring. Our doubles play got a little better on the second day, but we still need improvement.
The upcoming Milwaukee Classic will be a good opportunity for 3 of our guys. Blake Roegner has played in it before, but this will be new for Teddy Wong and Remi St Laurent. The level of competition will be strong, and I am looking forward to seeing if we can continue to show improvement."
