Golden Eagles claim four event victories in front of hometown crowd.
MILWAUKEE, Wis.- Marquette track and field competed in front of a hometown crowd Sunday at the John Tierney Invitational inside theΒ KlotscheΒ Center on the campus of UWβMilwaukee. The Golden Eagles claimed four event victoriesΒ in their first meet in Milwaukee this season.Β
"ExcellentΒ meetΒ for the big team today," said Director of Track and Field &Β Cross Country BertΒ Rogers. "It'sΒ great competing close to home in front of family and friends. We had several good performances and a few topβ10 marks that give us a lot to build on."Β
The women's squad was led by sophomores Sadie KibelstisΒ and Allyson Broaddus, who each secured event victories.Β KibelstisΒ won the mile in 5:16.64 and added a topβfive finish in the 800m (2:31.78). Broaddus captured the weight throw with a personalβrecord mark of 17.57m, the ninthβbest mark in program history, while junior Megan White followed with a seasonβbest 16.46m to place second. Freshman Taya Gummerson also earned a win for Marquette, taking theΒ 3000mΒ in 11:04.50 while adding a fourthβplace finish in the mile.Β
On the track,Β freshmanΒ Nonic OellingΒ placed second in theΒ 200mΒ with a time of 26.24, while junior Jaiden DornausΒ finished second in the 400m (1:02.95).Β FreshmanΒ Paige Haglund added a personal best of 1:04.70. Sophomore Sanai Baker earned a topβfive finish in the 60m, clocking 7.92 in the final after advancing out of the prelims. In the hurdles, sophomore Olivia Verden placed fifth in the 60m hurdles following a seasonβbest qualifying time of 9.46.Β
In the field, senior Haley Schaffer recorded a personalβbest leap of 5.65m to place fourth in the long jump, tying for the ninthβbest indoor mark in school history. Junior Sara Stout finished fifth in the high jump after clearing 1.48m, whileΒ freshmanΒ Kassidy Papa added a thirdβplace finish in the pole vault (3.45m). Marquette closed the women's competition with a secondβplace showing in the 4x400mΒ relay, as the 'A' squad finished in 4:11.98.Β
The men's team was highlighted by a dominant mile victory fromΒ freshmanΒ Patrick Clune, who ran a personalβrecord 4:17.97. Marquette placed five athletes in the top five of theΒ event, withΒ freshmanΒ Dylan Riniker finishing second in a PR 4:19.34, junior Nick Parrell taking third (4:19.77),Β freshmanΒ Sam Chandler placing fourth (4:20.73), and sophomore Edgar Valles recording a personal best of 4:21.65. In theΒ 3000m, junior Logan Goodman earned second with a personalβrecord time of 8:43.63, while Riniker added a thirdβplace finish with another PR.Β
Senior Justin Juniel paced the sprint group with a secondβplace finish in the 60m (7.13). Freshman Charlie DutmerΒ posted a personalβbest 8.72 to place fourth in the 60m hurdles and later finished third in the 200m (23.44). Sophomore Alika Lugo added a runnerβup finish in theΒ 400mΒ with a time of 51.14.Β
In the field events, freshman Jude Anderson placed second in the long jump with a seasonβbest mark of 6.85m. Sophomore Charlie Smith recorded a personalβrecord throw of 14.63m to finish second in the shot put, while senior John Pitta added a secondβplace finish and personal record of 14.15m in the triple jump, the ninthβbest mark in school history. The men's 4x400mΒ relay capped the meet with a secondβplace finish in 3:45.14.Β
