Golden Eagles to debut uniforms Wednesday vs. Xavier
The Marquette University men's basketball team unveiled its 2025-26 Players Edition uniforms on Tuesday.
The design process involved seniors Chase Ross, Sean Jones, and Ben Gold, who worked alongside Marquette staff and Jordan Brand to develop the new-look threads. The design was inspired by the zigzag and gothic-style uniforms worn in the early 1970s and by Earl Tatum himself, who helped reveal the modernized version on social media.
"Man, we had some beautiful uniforms," Tatum said. "We've got these unis on, man, running out there and the fans going wild. I really liked them."
Designed by the players. For the players. In honor of the players. Uniforms continue to be an important way to blend the past and present for head coach Shaka Smart and the basketball program. This is the second year that current players were involved in the design process; last year's seniors repped the "Miami Vice" and Doc Rivers camo-inspired alternates.
Streets of Old Milwaukee Sets Stage For Release VideoÂ
For the 1974-75 media guide, Coach Al McGuire and the basketball team took lifestyle photos at the Milwaukee Public Museum. Earl Tatum and others showcased incredible style as they posed at various locations in the museum for photos that would later be published in the guide. To honor the team, Earl, and the era that inspired the uniforms, Chase, Ben, and Sean returned to the museum's Streets of Old Milwaukee for the reveal video. In addition to filming in that exhibit, they ventured around the museum and posed in similar spots to those the players used in 1974-75.
All In The Details
- Nameplate:Â Featured in the early 1970s, this gothic-style artwork uniquely incorporates a lowercase "q."
- Numbers:Â A college block font that was popular across all uniforms throughout the 1970s and appeared on multiple Marquette uniforms.
- Side Panel:Â The zigzag design featured in the early 1970s was an eye-catching pattern in the program's run of innovative uniform styles.
- Collar, Belt, and Trim:Â Two-color trim outlines the uniform. This was seen most notably on the belts of the early 1970s road uniforms which were some of the most colorful in Marquette's history.
- "AL" Emblem:Â The blue circle with gold lettering honors the popular late-60s and early-70s uniforms that featured gold numbers inside a blue circle, while also honoring legendary coach Al McGuire.
- "MU" Logo:Â A creative logo that blends eras of Marquette uniforms from the 1970s and 1980s, tying the different elements together.
Marquette Basketball Continues Relationship With Ripon Athletic (Sand-Knit)
Ripon Athletic (Sand-Knit), the manufacturer behind Marquette's iconic uniforms in the late 20th century, continues to work with the program to this day. The original art for the gothic nameplate was contributed by Ripon Athletic and pulled from the original 1970s design. They also provided the original college block font used for the jersey numbers.
Marquette will wear the Players Edition uniforms against Xavier on Wednesday night, Jan. 7, at 6 p.m. CT. The uniform will remain in the rotation as an alternate for the Golden Eagles for the rest of the season.
