Prior to Marquette: Sternglass earned three letters in both cross country and track and field during his time at Xavier High School, while serving as team captain for both as a senior. During his junior and senior years, Sternglass earned most valuable performer honors in outdoor track, while also earning MVP honors in cross country as a senior. He notched a school-record time of 2:33.47 in the 1,000-meter run at Xavier and holds school-record relay splits of 49.2 seconds (400 meters) and 1:56.2 (800 meters).
