Major League Lacrosse player Tim Rotanz is in his first season as a volunteer assistant coach for the Marquette men’s lacrosse team in 2018-19.
“We have been blessed to always have great volunteer assistant coaches at Marquette and Tim Rotanz will only enhance that legacy,” Amplo said. “He is the son of one of Long Island’s greatest high school coaches and starred for a great program at Maryland. His experiences will serve him and us well as he begins his coaching career. We are very thankful that he is with us.”
Rotanz, the 12th overall pick in the 2018 MLL Collegiate Draft, was a two-time USILA All-American at Maryland, where he helped the Terrapins to the 2017 NCAA Championship and was a member of five Final Four teams. In addition to all-America honors as a junior and senior, Rotanz earned All-NCAA Championship Team recognition in 2017 as well as All-Big Ten Second Team and all-tournament team accolades.
Rotanz scored 67 career goals at Maryland and left the program 42nd all-time with 109 points. His hat trick in the 2017 national title game lifted the Terps past Ohio State and his final goal was the winner with a minute remaining.
As a rookie with the MLL’s Charlotte Hounds this season, Rotanz posted seven goals and an assist while playing alongside Marquette assistant coach Jacob Richard and former MU volunteer assistant Ryan Brown.
“I am excited and thankful to have the opportunity to work with Coach Amplo and his staff,” Rotanz said.
He graduated in May of 2017 from Maryland with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and criminology and also earned a second bachelor’s degree in sociology in 2018.
Rotanz was a prep all-American at Shoreham-Wading River High School on Long Island where he played for his father, Tom, and was Inside Lacrosse’s No. 3 overall recruit in the Class of 2013.
