Lied, a native of Brookfield, Wisconsin, joins the Golden Eagles' coaching ranks following a four-year playing career at Michigan State University.
As a Spartan, Lied finished his career with 73 singles and 86 doubles wins. Lied was named an Academic All-Big Ten honoree and named to the All-Big Ten Second Team as a junior, while earning Big Ten Athlete of the Week twice. He claimed All-Big Ten First Team in his final year with the program in 2013-14. Notably, Lied helped lead MSU to its first-ever appearance in the NCAA tournament in 2013 after defeating Nebraska in the Big Ten Tournament.
Prior to college, Lied was a three-time captain of the Brookfield East High School tennis team, where he was selected as an all-state honoree in 2006 and first team all-state from 2007-2009. In Lied's junior and senior seasons, Brookfield East claimed third at the state tournament.
At Michigan State, Lied majored in applied engineering sciences.
