Outdoor (Fr.): Saw action in six meets in the shot put, discus and hammer … Posted season-best marks in the first efforts for all three events.
Indoor (Fr.): Competed in the shot put in a pair of events … Made collegiate debut at the UWM Panther Tune-Up (Feb. 14).
Prior to Marquette: Lettered once in track & field and twice in cross country at Valders High School under coach Jesse Schneider ... She also lettered four times in basketball and softball, garnering a combined five all-conference honors in those two sports ... During her senior year she was a captain and earned Team MVP for her basketball team, which won conference championships during all four years of her high school career ... On the diamond, she was a two-time conference player of the year and a two-time team MVP ... The Second Team Wisconsin All-State honoree was also a two-time all-region selection ... Named a WIAA Scholar Athlete in addition to garnering Senior Female Athlete of the Year at Valders High School ... Only competed in track & field for one season, specializing in throws ... Played AAU softball for Lakeshore Rise.
Personal: Hammel was born on Sept. 3, 2001 in Manitowoc, Wis., to Rikki and Scott Hammel ... She was one younger sister, Carissa ... She plans to study cognitive science at MU.
