Prior to Marquette: Haugland earned four letters in both cross country and track and field at Wayzata High School, while serving as captain of the cross country and track and field squads during his senior year. In cross country, Haugland was an all-state selection as a senior, an all-section pick as a junior and senior and an all-conference performer over the past three seasons. He helped the Trojans to a team state championship in 2007 and 2008 and a runner-up finish in 2009. Also competed in the Nike Cross Country Nationals from 2007-09 and recorded a best finish of 16th in 2009. In the classroom, Haugland was an academic all-state selection in both cross country and track and field during his junior and senior seasons.
