The 2021-22 campaign marked the second year for Devin Perez on the Marquette women's basketball staff. He is responsible for developing student-athletes on and off the court while providing assistance with recruiting, travel logistics and community service outings.
Due to COVID-19 policies made by the NCAA, Perez has been able to assist the coaching staff on the court, helping with individual skill work as well as scouting and team concepts.
Perez aids the staff with several key duties, including preparing scouting reports, assisting in day-to-day practice and game operations in addition to duties as assigned on the road and with travel, and providing support in post-season player development which includes film study and on-court application. He also oversees the male practice players, and has helped with the organization of the team playbook.
Serving as the team's camp director, Perez plays an important role in recruiting as well. He assists with on-campus recruiting which includes providing campus tours, hotels and meals, while also organizing call lists and distributing recruiting mailers and handwritten schedules for coaches.Â
Prior to his time at Marquette, Perez spent the previous two seasons as a graduate student manager with the University of Missouri women's basketball team while obtaining his master's degree from the school's Positive Coaching program.
There, he assisted all staff members in day-to-day operations such as recruiting visits, scouting reports, player development and film study. Perez assisted the director in planning out and executing Mizzou summer camps in addition to organizing and creating recruiting mailings. He also assisted in the team's graphics and content creation.
Prior to his time at Missouri, he spent three years playing collegiate basketball at Ottawa University (2015-17). He transferred to Ottawa after his sophomore year at Clarendon Junior College, where he played baseball for one year after taking a medical redshirt as a freshman.
Perez averaged five points per game and shot nearly 40% from three as a senior. He was also a career 90% FT shooter.
He started Next Up Basketball Camps in Tulsa, Oklahoma in January of 2017 and held camps for two summers before accepting his position at Missouri.
In 2018, Perez coached two MOKAN Basketball Club youth teams while assisting with private instruction and camps.
