Marquette women's basketball head coach Cara Consuegra retained Khadijah Rushdan as assistant coach and recruiting coordinator with the program on Monday, May 6, 2024. Rushdan completed her second season at Marquette in 2024-25, and first season as an assistant coach / recruiting coordinator.
In the summer of 2025, Rushdan was invited to the prestigious TopConnect Basketball Symposium. TopConnect identifies the top assistant basketball coaches in the country and connects them with mid-major Athletic Directors providing tremendous networking and leadership development opportunities for both parties.
Rushdan helped guide Marquette to a 21-win season in 2024-25. Marquette finished fourth in the BIG EAST after being picked 10th in the preseason coaches’ poll. The Golden Eagles made it to the second round of the Women’s Basketball Invitation Tournament.The Golden Eagles were consistently top 50 in the nation in field goal percentage defense (38.1 percent) and held opponents to under 45-percent shooting from the field in 28-of-32 games.
Marquette led the BIG EAST in rebounding all season at 37.5 rebounds per game and a +4.8 rebound margin. The Golden Eagles outrebounded their opponent in 20-of-32 games.
Marquette finished third in the BIG EAST in scoring offense (67.1 points per game) and scoring margin (+7.8). Sophomore forward Skylar Forbes earned All-BIG EAST First Team honors while senior guard Lee Volker was named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team.
The 2023-24 season marked the first season for Khadijah Rushdan at Marquette after joining the MU staff in May of 2023.
Rushdan comes to Marquette after spending the past five seasons as an assistant coach at North Florida. Her primary duties at MU include player development, scouting and recruiting.
Marquette made history during the 2023-24 season with the best start in program history at 12-0. The Golden Eagles were one of 10 teams in the country to go undefeated in nonconference, including winning the Fort Meyers Tip-Off over Thanksgiving weekend. MU earned an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament with 23 wins and finished tied for third at 11-7 in the BIG EAST with St. John's and Villanova.
The Golden Eagles were one of the best in the nation at sharing the ball, averaging 17.9 assists per game to rank top 20 in the country. Marquette finished top 25 in the nation in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.22). Senior guard Rose Nkumu finished first in the BIG EAST and sixth in the country in assist-to-turnover ratio.
MU shot 50-percent-or-better from the floor 11 times and finished top 40 in the nation in FG percentage (44.8 percent). The Golden Eagles were among the nation’s best from deep, shooting 36.3 percent from beyond the arc to rank top 20 in the nation and second in the BIG EAST. Sophomore guard Mackenzie Hare was first in the BIG EAST and 13th in the nation with 91 made threes on the season.
While at North Florida, Rushdan helped develop forward Jazz Bond into the program's first-ever WNBA draft pick. Bond, twice named the ASUN Defensive Player of the Year, spent four years in the program with Rushdan before being selected in the 2022 WNBA Draft.
A specialist in guard play and development at UNF, Rusdan also helped coach Marissa Mackins to an All-ASUN First Team selection in 2020-21. Rhetta Moore was named the ASUN Scholar-Athlete of the Year while also earning all-tournament honors in 2020-21.
Prior to her time at North Florida, Rushdan spent one season as an assistant coach at LaSalle and three seasons as an assistant coach at St. Elizabeth High School in Wilmington, Delaware. Additionally, she was a member of the coaching staff at the 2022 US Olympic Women's Basketball U16 Trials.
As a player, Rushdan had a high level of success at the collegiate, professional and national team levels. After a strong collegiate career at Rutgers, she was selected as the 15th overall pick in the 2012 WNBA Draft by the Los Angeles Sparks. She spent one season there before playing professionally in Israel in 2012-13.
As a guard at Rutgers from 2007-12, she appeared in 135 games for the Scarlet Knights, tied for second-most in program history. She ranks 21st in Rutgers' scoring ranks with 1,288 career points. She helped her team to NCAA tournament appearances all five seasons, including an Elite Eight in 2007-08 and a Sweet 16 appearance in 2008-09.
Rushdan won a gold medal at the 2006 FIBA Americas Championship as a member of the USA U18 National Team. At St. Elizabeth High School in Wilmington, Delaware, Rushdan was a 2007 McDonald's All-American and was a three-time Delaware State Player of the Year and the second leading scorer in state history with 2,414 points. She was inducted into the Delaware Sports Museum Hall of Fame and St. Elizabeth Hall of Fame in 2022.
Rushdan earned a bachelor's degree in exercise science from Rutgers University in 2012, then returned to her alma mater for a master's degree in global sports business in 2018.
