The Waukesha native graduated from Carroll University in 2007 where he earned a bachelor's degree in Psychology and a Minor in Religious Studies. During his time at Carroll, Kavelaris was a member of both the Men's Tennis & Soccer teams. On the tennis court, Kavelaris was a 4 year letter winner, two year captain and one of the staples of the team during his final seasons. On the soccer field, Kavelaris was a two-year starter as Carroll's goalkeeper where he was an integral part of the teams' regular season and postseason success.
After graduation, Kavelaris started his coaching career at the club level where he has spent the past six years coaching in the greater Milwaukee area. During his time coaching, Kavelaris has worked with a wide variety of skill levels; from first time players to those with state and regional rankings. In 2010, Kavelaris earned certification from the United States Professional Tennis Association as a Certified Tennis Professional.
In 2013, Kavelaris earned a master's degree in Mental Health Counseling from Trinity International University in Deerfield, Illinois. Since his graduation, Kavelaris has worked in a private outpatient mental health clinic as a Professional Counselor in the Greater Milwaukee area. Along with his clinical work, Kavelaris also engages in speaking and facilitating workshops in the local community. Kavelaris is currently a member of the American Counseling Association (ACA) as well as the Association of Applied Sports Psychology (AASP).
Nick and his wife Amy were married in 2011 and currently live in Pewaukee.
