Shakari "Kari" Lewis, LPCÂ is a Licensed Professional Counselor with over a decade of experience in mental health therapy. Now entering her fourth year in collegiate athletics, she serves as the Director of Student-Athlete Mental Health and Sports Performance at Marquette University, where she leads the mental health strategy for over 350 elite student-athletes.Â
Kari provides comprehensive, culturally competent care focused on emotional resilience, performance optimization, and holistic wellness. She has developed and implemented foundational policies around confidentiality, informed consent, and integrated mental health operations, ensuring that student-athletes receive high-quality, ethical support in a safe and trusted environment.
With a deep commitment to athlete empowerment, Kari delivers tailored workshops, and team consultations to help student-athletes strengthen their mental health and enhance their performance on and off the field. Her work is grounded in the belief that mental well-being is essential to achieving both peak performance and long-term personal success.
Kari actively collaborates with colleagues across the Big East Conference and remains engaged in the Counseling and Clinical Sport Psychology community, continually advancing her practice, peer consultation, and professional development.
Outside of work, she enjoys traveling with her family and is on a mission to visit all 50 states before her children turn 18.
