Shea Dunbar enters his ninth year at Marquette University as the Assistant Director of Compliance in 2024-25.
Shea manages the day-to-day operations of the athletic compliance office that services Marquette’s athletic programs and provides NCAA and Big East Conference rules interpretations for coaches, student-athletes, administrators, University staff, and donors.
Mr. Dunbar’s primary responsibilities consist of handling financial aid for all sports in accordance with NCAA and University limitations. Accordingly, Mr. Dunbar also has budgetary oversight of the Student-Athlete Opportunity Fund (SAOF). He also works with each program to declare its playing season, practice schedule, off days, and team travel. Furthermore, Mr. Dunbar handles all donation requests from outside organizations. Other duties include updating and filing all medical hardship requests, updating Transfer Portal information, filing waivers/violations, tracking managers and male practice players, approving tryouts, and monitoring camps and clinics.
Prior to Marquette, he served as the Compliance Coordinator at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) during the 2015-16 academic year. Mr. Dunbar also interned in the Athletic Compliance offices at both Northwestern University (2014-15) and Iowa State University (2013-14).
Shea received a Bachelor of Science from Virginia Tech and a Juris Doctorate from Drake University.
The Gainesville, Florida native was raised in Fairfax, Virginia, and currently resides in Wauwatosa with his wife, Sara, daughters, Adele & Colette, and his dog, Percy.
