Men's Tenis Back In Action At Des Moines

UP NEXT Head coach David Staniford?s Marquette men?s tennis team goes to Des Moines, Iowa, this weekend to compete at the Drake Invitational. Singles and doubles competition will take place on Fri.-Sun., Oct. 15-17, at the Drake Tennis Center
LAST WEEK While the full squad had the week off to prepare for the Drake Invitational, senior Christophe Van Der Gucht (Waasmunster, Belgium / OLVC) and junior Bart Cordemeyer (Badhoevedorp, Holland / Keizer Karel) competed individually and as a doubles tandem at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-American Championships pre-qualifying tournament. The University of Texas hosted the competition in Austin, Texas, on Sat.-Sun., Oct. 9-10.
After defeating UT-San Antonio?s Todd Petty 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 in the opening round, Cordemeyer was eliminated from the competition with a 3-6, 6-1, 6-2, second-round loss to Marino Baghdati of Texas Tech. Van Der Gucht suffered an opening-round defeat, falling to Miami?s Johan Lindquist 6-2, 6-1.
The duo received a bye in the first round of the doubles pre-qualifying bracket and then lost Eric Dmytric and Scott Kintz of California, 8-3, in the Round of 64.
