CHICAGO, Ill. - Conference USA today named Marquette junior Greg Guglielmino (Mesa, Ariz. / Phoenix JC) its men's soccer Defensive Player of the Week. Guglielmino earned both weekend victories for the Golden Eagles, who stopped Memphis and upset #12 Creighton in back-to-back 1-0 victories.
The junior college transfer came up big for the Golden Eagles in both weekend contests, making 11 saves and breaking up several other good scoring chances in the two games. He stopped four shots against the Tigers and then made a Marquette career-high seven saves against a talented Creighton squad. His point-blank save of a Bluejay header late in the contest preserved what was then a 0-0 tie and may have saved the game for the Golden Eagles.
Following the weekend victories, Guglielmino is now 6-1-0 with four shutouts, 26 saves and a 1.06 GAA. He currently has a streak of 256 unscored-upon minutes.
