Marquette Volleyball Team Downs Providence in Five Games

Milwaukee, Wis. - The Marquette Volleyball team posted a thrilling 15-9, 13-15, 6-15, 15-11, 19-17 win over Providence in the opening round of the Marquette Challenge. Senior Katie Watters served an ace on the fifth match point for Marquette. The Golden Eagles extended their winning streak to three matches with the victory. It was the home opener for the Golden Eagles and a boisterous crowd of 389 packed the Marquette Gym.
Marquette outhit the Lady Friars .158-.097 and had 17 total team blocks. The Golden Eagles overcame 21 service errors, while PC committed 17.
Vesna Grbavac registered team highs with 19 kills and a .218 hitting percentage to go with 14 digs. Chris Curtin added 18 kills, 17 digs and five block assists. Kelly Kaylor contributed 15 kills, 17 digs and three aces.
PC's Sarah Katinger led all players with 22 kills. Annie Cella had 16 kills and 30 digs.
Marquette improved to 3-2, while Providence dipped to 1-3.
