Volleyball Team Tops Illinois-Chicago 3-1

Chicago, Ill - The Marquette volleyball team posted a 15-8, 8-15, 15-5, 15-6 victory at Illinois-Chicago Tuesday evening. With the win, their second consecutive, the Golden Eagles improved to 7-4. Illinois-Chicago dipped to 7-7.
"We're excited to be 7-4 heading into Conference USA play this weekend," said first-year head coach Laura Farina. "Our preseason goal was to be 7-4 at this point in the season. Hopefully we will carry this momentum into our Conference USA season."
Once again it was sophomore Vesna Grbavac who paced Marquette. She tallied a match-high 22 kills and three service aces, hit .488, and recorded 10 digs. It was her second straight match with a double-double in kills-digs. Danielle Hagen had a fine outing with 16 kills, 12 digs and a .406 hitting percentage. Liz Egasti had 55 assists for the Golden Eagles.
Jackie Utz paced UIC with 15 kills and Kelly Colangelo added 12 kills.
Marquette begins the Conference USA portion of its season this Friday against Memphis. Action at the Marquette Gym (1532 W. Clybourn St.) gets underway at 7 p.m.
