Marquette Volleyball Hosts Southern Miss and Tulane

Milwaukee -- The Marquette volleyball team looks to improve its standing in C-USA this weekend (Oct. 27-28) when it plays host to Southern Miss and Tulane. MU takes on USM on Friday before meeting up with Tulane on Saturday. Both matches will be played at the Old Gym starting at 7:00 p.m.
Heading into Friday's outing against Southern Miss, the Golden Eagles stand 5-18 overall and 3-7 in league action. In its most recent outing, MU dropped its second straight match when it came out on the short end of a four-game decision to Loyola, 5-15, 9-15, 15-10, 13-15. Freshmen Ann Lopata (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) and Megan Markowski (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) each recorded 10 kills to lead Marquette with Markowski contributing a team-high 18 digs.
Southern Miss comes to town with an overall record of 9-14 and stands 2-8 in league play. USM ended a six-game losing match on Tuesday (Oct. 24) when it defeated Nicholls State in four games. Southern Miss is led by junior Lindsay Westendorf who is averaging 3.79 kills per game, good for 10th place in C-USA, and who owns a 25.3 attack percentage. Sophomore Zane Crystal holds down the No. 6 position in the conference in assists (11.56 apg).
Heading into a Friday night match at DePaul, Tulane has captured its last four games, boosting its record to 14-8 overall and 6-4 in the league. This past Wednesday (Oct. 25), the Green Wave defeated Southern-Baton Rouge in three games. Senior Kim Sentmore is a big threat for Tulane, averaging 4.50 kills per game, good for the No. 4 position in the league.
EGASTI CLOSING IN ON C-USA RECORD -- MU senior Liz Egasti is 20 assists shy of becoming C-USA's all-time leader in assists. Heading into the Southern Miss match, Egasti has 4,853 career assists and is second only to UAB's Abby Thatcher (1995-98) mark of 4,872.
MARQUETTE NOTES -- Megan Markowski enters the weekend with double-figure kills to her credit in her last four and in a total of 15 matches this season ... Markowski's performance against Loyola represented her eighth double-double of the campaign of kills and digs ... Junior Mehgan Devine (Harris, Minn.) holds down the No. 7 position on the Marquette career chart in block solos with 61 while her 219 block assists is also good for seventh place ... Devine is just 14 kills shy of reaching 500 in her career ... Ann Lopata starts play this weekend with a four-match streak of double-figure kills ... Lopata has five matches of 20 or kills this season.
