Valparaiso, Ind. - Marquette (8-3-2) rebounded from a four-match winless streak to earn a victory from Valparaiso (2-7) in overtime, 2-1.
"It was a funny game," head coach Steve Adlard said. "You take the win and hope it's a building block."
Sophomore Mike Robards took the give and go from junior Sean Reti in the 97th minute to break the 1-1 deadlock that sent the match to the extra period.
Sophomore J.W. Simpson forced overtime late in the match. In the 87th minute, Simpson created an opportunity from 18 yards out for the game-tying goal.
Valparaiso forward Ben Olson put the hosts on the board first with a breakaway goal in the match's 79th minute.
The Golden Eagles took 25 shots on goal, with 10 coming from senior Marshall Morehead.
"We had tons of chances," Adlard added. "We hit the keeper, we missed our target, we hit the post. But at least we got the win.
Marquette returns to action on Tuesday, Oct. 10 with a match at UW-Green Bay.
