Marquette Volleyball Hosts Saint Louis and Charlotte

Milwaukee -- The Marquette volleyball team closes out the home portion of the 2000 schedule this Friday and Saturday (Nov. 10-11) when it plays host to Saint Louis and Charlotte. Both matches will be played at the MU Gymnasium and the start time for both matches is 7:00 p.m.
THE COACHES -- Marquette is guided by second-year Head Coach Laura Farina (Illinois '92). Entering Friday night's action, Farina has a school and career won-lost ledger of 25-33. She stands 1-2 against Charlotte and 0-3 against Saint Louis. Charlotte is led by first-year Head Coach Lisa Marston (North Carolina, '92), who has compiled a school mark of 12-16. Prior to her current post, she served as head coach at Davidson for five years (1995-99) where she compiled a slate of 85-79. Saint Louis is guided by seventh-year coach Marilyn Nolen (Southwest Texas State, '66) who takes a school record of 145-92 into a Friday night match against DePaul. Now in her 29th season as a college coach, Nolen enters the weekend with a career mark of 764-310.
THE RECORDS -- Marquette enters the Charlotte match with an overall record of 7-20 including a 5-9 slate in C-USA action, tying it for fifth place in the American Division. The Golden Eagles are coming off a tough weekend that saw them come out on the short end of three-game decisions at Cincinnati and Louisville. Saint Louis comes to town with an overall record of 11-15 including a mark of 5-9 in C-USA. The Billikens have lost their last four matches including a three-game decision to No. 21-ranked Notre Dame on Tuesday (Nov. 7). Charlotte starts play this weekend with an overall effort of 12-16, 6-8 in league play. The 49ers snapped a four-match losing streak last Friday when they won at Saint Louis in four games.
THE SERIES -- Saint Louis holds a 15-13 edge in the all-time series against Marquette. Earlier this season (Oct. 8), the Billikens recorded a three-game sweep against the Golden Eagles. MU holds a slim a 6-5 all-time advantage over the 49ers. Charlotte captured the first meeting of the year (Oct. 6) between the schools in a four-game decision.
SENIOR NIGHT FESTIVITIES SET FOR SATURDAY -- Following Saturday night's match against Charlotte, seniors Liz Egasti (St. Charles, Ill.) and Katherine Lindros (Barrie, ONT) will be recognized by the Marquette volleyball program. Egasti ranks as C-USA's all-time leader in assists and has played in over 400 games during her collegiate career. Lindros, a three-year letterwinner (1997-99), was forced to miss the 2000 campaign due to injury.
MARQUETTE NOTES -- Freshman Ann Lopata (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) has registered 354 kills this season and holds down 10th place on the school's seasonal chart ... Heading into this weekend's action, Lopata has 20 contests of double-figure kills to her credit this year ... While Liz Egasti has garnered much recognition for becoming C-USA's all-time assists leader, she also stands No. 7 all-time in service aces at Marquette with 110 ... Junior Mehgan Devine's (Harris, Minn.) 25 block solos ties her for ninth place on the school's all-time seasonal ladder ... Devine also holds the school's eighth-highest seasonal effort in that category with 26 set during the 1998 campaign ... Career-wise, Devine is sixth on MU's career chart in block solos with 65 ... Junior Annie Richey (Saint Louis, Mo.) and freshman Megan Markowski (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) rank 1-2 on the team in digs with 254 and 252, respectively.
