MILWAUKEE - Marquette University junior Mike Adrian (St. Louis, Mo. / SLUH) was named to the 1999-2000 GTE Academic All-District V Fall/Winter At-Large University Division Second Team today. The junior midfielder earned the selection in a vote of district sports information directors and staffs. District V encompasses University Division (Division I) schools from Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Ontario and Manitoba.
"Michael has worked hard for the accomplishments he has received, both on the field and in the classroom," Marquette head coach Steve Adlard said. "He doesn't look for the spotlight. He just goes about his business in a professional manner, and it's nice to see him get some recognition because of his work ethic."
A political science major, Adrian carries a 3.80 grade point average. He has twice been named to the Conference USA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll.
A versatile 5-10 midfielder and defender, Adrian is one of the strongest two-way players for the Golden Eagles. He started 17 of the 18 games in which he appeared this past season, most often at eh left outside midfield slot. Despite registering only six shots, Adrian finished the season third on the team in scoring with eight points on two goals and four assists. He tallied the game-winning goal in Marquette's 2-1 victory over C-USA rival DePaul on Sept. 22.
A part-time starter, and key contributor off the bench, in each of his first two seasons, Adrian has appeared in 54 games, starting 30, in his three seasons at Marquette. He has 13 points on three goals and seven assists in his career.
Marquette finished last season 10-9 and in third place in Conference USA.
