Wallace took a feed from junior Josh Hickam and volleyed a shot past Marquette goalkeeper Adam Ubert (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead) at 44:34, giving the Kangaroos the lead for good.
"They played a high pressure game on us and put us off of our game," head coach Steve Adlard said. "They created themselves some good opportunities and we just never got into a rhythm."
That goal came just over one minute after Golden Eagle sophomore J.W. Simpson (Brookfield, Wis./Brookfield East) scored on a goal mouth scramble to tie the contest at 1-1.
UMKC opened the scoring at 18:30 as junior Larry Scheller accepted a pass from junior Tony Avery and headed home his first goal of the season.
Junior Brian Soell scored from 25 yards out at 53:11, giving UMKC a 3-1 advantage. Marquette outshot UMKC 19-17, with six of its shots on goal. UMKC goal keeper Beau Williams made five saves. Ubert made five saves while facing eight shots on goal.
Marquette returns home to face Wisconsin at 8:15 on Sept. 29. The Golden Eagles will also play Charlotte on Oct. 1 at 1 p.m.
