Women's Tennis Suffers First Loss of Season

MILWAUKEE - Marquette suffered its first loss of the women's tennis dual match season, dropping a close decision to Ill.-Chicago at the Helfaer Center. With the loss, Marquette falls to 1-1 on the season.
For the second-straight match, Marquette cruised to take doubles point, but it was in singles spots 3-6 where the Golden Eagles faced defeat.
Laura Garcia and Genevieve Charron earned wins at the nos. 1 and 2 spots respectively, but the rest of the Golden Eagles squad could not work out a victory as the Flames won the needed four points.
Anna Pavlovic at the no. 3 spot lost to Ayca Gumuscu, 6-3, 6-4, and Sommer LaValley dropped a 7-6, 6-3 decision to Zvjezdana Malesevic in Marquette's best shot at winning a fourth point.
The Golden Eagles return to action on Fri., Jan. 26 when they host Ohio State at 3 p.m. at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium.
