Marquette Volleyball Tops Loyola

Milwaukee -- The Marquette volleyball team won its fifth straight home match this evening by posting a three-game sweep over Loyola of Chicago. The Golden Eagles won their eighth match in the last 10 outings following a 30-25, 30-26, 30-22 decision over the Ramblers. The win boosted Marquette's overall record to 13-8 while Loyola slipped to 12-8.
Leading the way for Marquette was freshman Jennifer Amobi (Silver Springs, Mary.) who hit a team-high 34.4 percent (13-2--32) with her 13 attacks tying her with senior Vesna Grbavac (Palatine, Ill.) for team high honors. Grbavac also finished with a match-best 18 digs. Senior Mehgan Devine (Harris, Minn.) played a strong all-around match with nine kills, four service aces, and four block solos. Freshman Erin Freer (Stevensville, Mich.) helped the cause by playing a solid defensive match and totaling 15 digs.
For the match, the Golden Eagles posted a 20.1 attack percentage (46-19--134) compared to Loyola's 19.4 percent (48-20--144). MU registered a 61-53 edge in digs, dished out eight service aces to Loyola's one, and held a 9-5 margin in total blocks.
Marquette continues its three-match home stand on Friday when it hosts C-USA foe Memphis starting at 7:00 p.m. at the MU Gym.
