After dropping a nip-and-tuck affair in game one, Marquette faced a 12-7 deficit in the early stages of the second game before a 5-1 run, keyed by three kills by Grbavac, narrowed the gap to 13-12. After the Blue Demons edged ahead by an 18-14 margin, Grbavac ignited a Golden 9-2 MU spurt that gave it a 23-20 advantage. In that stretch, Grbavac dished out two aces while coming up with an attack. The host Blue Demons bounced back and tied the game at 26-26 on the strength of a Stephanie Bishop service ace. A Hagen kill, combined with a DePaul attack error, enabled Marquette to lay claim to a 28-26 lead, but DePaul responded with a 5-2 burst that gave it a 31-30 lead. However, the Golden Eagles remained tenacious and recorded the game's last three points to earn the win. Grbavac totaled seven kills and seven digs to lead the team's effort in the win.
The third game saw DePaul make the most of a 12-4 outburst that broke open a close game, giving it a 26-16 margin. After four straight Marquette points, the Blue Demons closed out the game with four consecutive points. Marquette could muster only a .054 attack percentage (9-7-37) while DePaul posted a 27.7 hitting percentage (19-6-47).
