Marquette Volleyball Edges Charlotte on the Road

Milwaukee -- The Marquette volleyball team needed five games to do it, but it managed a key win on the road Friday evening, defeating Charlotte. The Golden Eagles raised their overall record to 16-9, 8-5 in C-USA, following a 21-30, 30-18, 30-27, 24-30, 15-12 triumph. The loss dropped the 49ers' record to 12-13 overall, 3-10 in the league.
Leading the way for Marquette was senior Mehgan Devine (Harris, Minn.) with 20 kills, tying for team-high honors, along with 14 digs. Devine also doled out four service aces and registered five total blocks. Senior Vesna Grbavac (Palatine, Ill.) chipped in 14 attacks and 13 digs while freshman Jennifer Amobi (Silver Springs, Mary.) rounded out the double-figure attack performers with 12 kills. Other MU players aiding in the win included sophomore Megan Markowski (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) with five service aces and junior Amy Levin (Palatine, Ill.) who contributed seven kills, a fine 45.5 attack percentage (7-2--11) and six total blocks.
For the match, Marquette recorded a 20.6 hitting percentage (63-28--170) compared to Charlotte's 19.5 percent (75-35--205). The Golden Eagles enjoyed an 11-5 advantage in service aces, a 76-73 edge in digs, and a 12-8 margin in total blocks.
Marquette returns to the MU Gym on Sunday (Nov. 4) to meet league-leading Cincinnati (17-5, 13-1 C-USA). The season's final regular-season home game will start at 2:00 p.m. The match marks the final home appearance for seniors Mehgan Devine, Vesna Grbavac, and captain Tarah Beyer (Rockford, Ill.).
