Marquette Volleyball Defeats Charlotte

Milwaukee -- The Marquette volleyball team closed out a solid weekend of play on Saturday evening by defeating Charlotte in a match played at the MU Gym. The Golden Eagles notched their fourth straight win by downing the 49ers, 30-21, 30-14, 30-10. With the victory, Marquette boosted its overall record to 9-6, 3-2 in Conference USA action. Charlotte saw its record fall to 7-8 overall, 1-5 in league play.
Marquette finished the match hitting 26.0 percent (40-15--96) while holding Charlotte to a -.043 effort (23-27--94). Aiding in the Golden Eagles' triumph were 14 service aces compared to two for the 49ers. MU also registered a 39-30 advantage in digs.
Leading the way for MU was senior Vesna Grbavac with 15 kills and a 31.3 hitting percentage (15-5--32). Senior Mehgan Devine (Harris, Minn.) totaled nine attacks while freshman Jennifer Amobi (Silver Springs, Mary.) tallied seven. Junior Danielle Hagen (Milwaukee) posted a team-high eight digs.
Marquette's next action takes place on Friday, Oct. 12, when it plays at No. 23-ranked Louisville.
