CHICAGO - Senior midfielder Sean Reti (Brookfield, Wis.) was one of three Marquette men's soccer players to earn All-Conference USA honors, the league office announced. Junior defender Steve Lawrence (Brookfield, Wis.) was selected to the second team and junior midfielder Bryan Godfrey (Newburgh, Ind.) was chosen to the third team. Freshman Chris Lee (Lenexa, Kan.) was selcted to the all-freshman team.
This is the third year in a row that Reti has been named a first-team All-C-USA performer. Additionally, he was named to the All-Freshman team his first season. Reti currently leads the team in scoring with six goals and four assists.
Reti was joined on the first team by Dipsey Selolwane, Marty Tappel, Brad Davis, Mike Hill, Jason Cole and John Politis of Saint Louis, South Florida's Jason Cudjoe and Jeff Thwaites, Memphis' Sean Fraser, and Louisville's Adrian Cann.
Lawrence is making his third appearance on an all-conference team. The 5-10 junior from Brookfield was named third-team all-conference as a freshman in addition to an all-freshman team selection. He was named second-team all-conference last year. Lawrence is the backbone of the MU defense, which has allowed just 16 goals in 18 matches.
Godfrey earned his first appearance on an all-tournament team. He was, however, named all-freshman two seasons ago. Godfrey has been active on both sides of the ball, scoring three goals and adding an assist.
Lee earns his first postseason award. He tied Reti for the team lead in goals in the regular season with six.
Saint Louis coach Dan Donnigan was named the C-USA Coach-of-the-Year. SLU forward Dipsey Selolwane was named Player-of-the-Year. Marty Tappel of Saint Louis was named Defender-of-the-Year. UAB goalkeeper Clint Baumstark was named Freshman-of-the-Year.
Marquette returns to action on Thursday, Nov. 15 in the Conference USA Tournament in Tampa, Fla. The Golden Eagles meet South Florida at 8 p.m. (EST).
