Wisconsin(6-1-1) got on the board first in the 13th minute. Aaron Lauber scored on a pass from Scott Repa.
Marquette (4-1-1) answered the Badgers' goal in the 30th minute. Freshman Chris Lee (Lenexa, Kan.) scored his third of the season on a lob to the upper corner on an assist from sophomore Zach McCallum, who was playing in hometown of Madison. The Golden Eagles took the lead before the break in the 38th minute. Junior Jeff Gerlesits came off the bench to score on a header for the second straight match and give MU a 2-1 lead.
The Golden Eagles held onto the lead until early in the second half. Wisconsin forward Dominic DaPra scored in the 59th minute, heading the ball past Marquette goalkeeper Adam Ubert (Hartland, Wis.) to knot the score at two.
Both squads played the remaining 61 minutes without a tally. Ubert played an outstanding game, recording nine saves. Wisconsin keeper Moriba Baker recorded five saves for the Badgers. Less than a minute into overtime, Wisconsin had a key scoring opportunity off a corner kick but Repa's shot was denied by a diving save by Ubert. Both keepers made a pair of saves in the final overtime period to keep the contest tied.
"It was a tough game," head coach Steve Adlard said. "Both teams had their moments. We had times where we were in control and doing well, but in the end, they were playing for the tie like last year. It was a different kind of game, to give them credit, but they were playing for the tie."
Marquette returns to action on Friday, Sept. 28 at ninth-ranked UAB. The contest is set to begin at 2 p.m. at West Campus Field in Birmingham, Ala.
