Marquette Track and Field Teams Sweep Carthage Invite

The Marquette men's and women's Track and Field teams both took home first place honors at the Carthage Division One Invitational in Kenosha, Wis. on Jan. 18 in another strong showing by the team's freshman athletes . The Marquette men's team finished with 166 1/2 points and the women's team finished with 216 points.
Again leading the way for the women was freshman Crystal Andalcio-O'Neil(Arima, Trinidad) who won the 55 meter with a time of 7.20. Andalcio-O'Neil also took first place honors in the 200 meter with a time of 25.92.
Other Marquette first place finishers were senior Jennifer Batie (Lynwood, Ill.) won the 800 meter in a time of 2:17.19, senior Susan Barth (Bluffton, Ind.) who won the Mile with a time of 5:03.27 and senior Jeannette Batie won the 55 Hurdles with a time of 8.38.
The field events also were dominated by the Golden Eagle women, especially the freshman. Freshman Jenny Pribyl (Roseville, Minn.) won the Pole Vault with a jump of 8-11 3/4. Fellow freshman Christina LeDonne had the longest jump of the day, winning the Long Jump with a jump of 17-3/4. LeDonne was also second in the Triple Jump with a jump of 36-2 3/4. Winning the Triple Jump was another Golden Eagle frosh, Andrea Engelmann (North Vancouver, B.C.), who won with a jump of 37-9 1/4.
Freshman Emily Leklem (Nekoosa, Wis.) won the shot put with a throw of 42-11 1/2, she was followed by her teammate, senior Julie Sorrentino (Machesney Park, Ill.) who had a jump of 41-6 1/2. Sorrentino won the Weight Throw with a throw of 58-10 3/4.
The men saw much of the same successes as the women. Senior Qunicy Maggit (Milwaukee, Wis.) continued his strong season finishing first in the 55 Meter with a time of 6.57. Maggit also saw first place in the Long Jump with a jump of 22-1, good for first place.
Junior Marek Krawczyk (Muskego, Wis.) took the top honors in the 200 meter with a time of 22.61 and in the 400 meter with a time of 49.50. Junior Nic Wucherer (South Milwaukee, Wis.) won the 55 Meter High Hurdles with a time of 7.76.
The track and field teams will again be in action on Saturday, Jan. 26, at the Central Collegiates in Kent, Ohio.
