Marquette Volleyball Loses At South Florida

Milwaukee - The Marquette volleyball team ran into a red-hot South Florida team this afternoon and dropped a three-game decision to the Conference USA-leading Bulls. USF boosted its record to 25-5, 11-0 in the league, following a 30-17, 30-28, 30-21 victory over the Golden Eagles who saw their record slip to 11-14 in overall action, 2-10 in the conference.
Freshman Theresa Coughlin (Chicago) was the lone Marquette player to record double figures in attacks with 10 kills. Sophomore Shannon Devine (Harris, Minn.) finished with nine kills, along with three total blocks, while freshman Jessica Klein posted eight attacks en route to a 38.5 hitting percentage (8-3--13).
Leading the way for South Florida was senior outside hitter Michelle Collier who tallied a match-high 15 kills. Senior Jolene Patton also finished in double digits in that category with 10.
For the match, South Florida chalked up a 35.4 attack percentage (50-16--96) while Marquette registered a mark of 17.9 percent (39-22--95). Both teams came up with 24 digs while the Golden Eagles held a slim 5.5-3.0 margin in total blocks.
Marquette plays its final home match of the season next Friday (Nov. 15) when it hosts DePaul at the MU Gym starting at 7:00 p.m.
